We require a New Patient Virtual Consult before your first House Call.

What happens during a New Patient Virtual Consult?

  • This is a Zoom call to discuss your pet’s needs, address your questions or concerns, and make a plan together to ensure a successful house call visit!

  • This may include prescribing calming medications to give prior to the house call, depending on your pet’s temperament and past experiences.

  • We also discuss pricing for testing and treatments so you know exactly what to expect!

  • Your pet must be present for Dr. Sarah to walk you through a brief virtual exam.

  • Includes:

    • 15-30 minute Zoom video call with discussion, virtual exam and planning for future house call visits.

    • Written summary with personalized recommendations to prepare your pet for a house call.

    • Diagnostic test recommendations if needed (in-home testing is often available).

    • Prescriptions for pre-visit calming medications if needed.

    • Evaluation of submitted medical records, photos and videos. It is the pet owner’s responsibility to obtain all relevant records and lab results. Must be sent to Dr. Sarah at least 24 hours prior to the appointment time.

What happens during a House Call?

  • Dr. Sarah will come to your home during the arrival window. She will gently examine your pet in their preferred location, perform diagnostics or treatments, and discuss recommendations or treatment adjustments based on her exam.

  • See our Tips for Success to ensure a calm and helpful visit for your pet!

  • We are committed to gentle, Fear Free handling, so please be aware that we may reschedule services if your pet is not accessible or becomes too stressed.

  • Booking a visit online covers the exam and travel fee. For all other services, payment is required at time of service.

  • Includes:

    • In-person physical exam.

      • Required every 6-12 months for medication refills.

    • Diagnostic testing and treatments if needed.

    • Referrals for testing or treatments that are not possible in the home (such as x-rays or surgery).

    • Prescriptions for medications if needed (all medications must be purchased online or at a pharmacy, Dr. Sarah does not carry medications on visits).

    • Evaluation of submitted medical records, photos and videos. It is the pet owner’s responsibility to obtain all relevant records and lab results from their primary vet. Must be sent to Dr. Sarah at least 24 hours prior to the appointment time.

    • Free follow-up for questions directly related to the visit (via email).

Tips for a successful house call visit!

  • Set up a safe haven: arrange cozy blankets or beds, turn on calm classical music, have your pet’s favorite treats or toys ready, and plug in pheromone diffusers (Feliway for cats or Adaptil/ThunderEase for dogs) if you have them.

  • Give any recommended calming medications or supplements as prescribed prior to the visit.

  • Unless medically necessary, avoid feeding a meal within a few hours prior to the visit so your pet will be more motivated by treats!

  • If your pet tends to have high energy, consider a walk or play session before the visit.

  • Avoid scheduling other in-home services on the same day, especially if your pet tends to be anxious when people visit.

  • Make sure your cat or dog is in an enclosed, uncluttered room where they are comfortable and cannot easily hide under furniture, cause damage to personal possessions, or escape outdoors.

  • Pets may be evaluated outside in a shaded area of an enclosed yard if they have a calm temperament and will not try to escape (weather dependent).
