FAQs

What if my pet is having an emergency?

Virtual care is not an option for emergencies. They need in-person care right away.

Search online for the closest emergency veterinary clinic to your location, or use the links below to find contact information for AVECCC and VEG emergency vet clinics - both have multiple locations in Arizona.

AVECCC

VEG

Do you offer 24/7 care?

No. We offer predictable, thoughtful consulting and guidance during set business hours.

This is a solo-vet consulting practice, not primary veterinary care.

To ensure your pet has access to necessary veterinary care, we require your pet to have a relationship with an in-person vet in addition to virtual services.

What are your business hours?

Appointments are available:

Monday - Thursday 10am-6pm, Saturday 10am - 4pm

Appointment availability is limited. When scheduling an appointment, you will be able to see our most updated availability.

Can you prescribe medications?

Short term medications may be prescribed to pets in Arizona, with the following restrictions due to state regulations:

A virtual physical exam must be performed over video call, in real time.

A maximum of a 14-day course of medication may be prescribed, with the maximum of one refill. Any further refills for the same problem require an in-person vet exam.

Our Antibiotic Policy:

  • Antibiotic medications will only be prescribed after a diagnostic test result confirming bacterial infection has been performed.

We partner with Blue Rabbit online pharmacy, which offers both compounded and conventional medications. Shipping takes an average of 3-4 days.

How do I prepare for a Virtual Consult?

Choose a quiet location with high-speed internet and no distractions. Confine your pet in the room with you so we can walk you through a short exam. Your pet usually needs to be present, except during “Ask the Vet” appointments. We also encourage you to thoroughly fill out the pre-visit form and attach updated medical records, test results, photos and videos to help us assess your pet.

Does my pet need to live in Arizona?

Yes. Dr. Sarah Nelson is licensed in Arizona, where veterinarians are allowed to provide medical advice and prescribe certain medications under a virtual veterinarian-client-patient relationship (VCPR) to pets living in Arizona.
